Announcing the Dr. Rosa Castro Feinberg Scholarships

Two Scholarships in the Name and Spirit of Rosie Castro Feinberg

  

In collaboration with the Florida Association for Bilingual Education, ASPIRA Mid Atlantic is pleased to announce two scholarships in the name and spirit of Dr. Rosa Castro Feinberg. Please see below for more information and the application links are on the FABE website linked above. 

Application deadline is April 3, 2026. 

Scholarship for Bilingual Education Teachers

Purpose

To support educators who demonstrate exceptional commitment to teaching multilingual learners, advancing bilingual education, and advocating for linguistic equity in schools and communities.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a current PK–12 teacher or teacher candidate in an institution of higher education working with multilingual learners.
  • Demonstrate commitment to bilingual education, ESOL, or dual language instruction.
  • Work in or commit to work in schools serving linguistically diverse communities.
  • Have at least one year (two semester or more) of experience (or practicum experience for candidates) in bilingual or multilingual education.

Application Materials

Applicants submit:

  1. Statement of Commitment (750–1000 words)
    Describe your work with multilingual learners and how it reflects Dr. Castro Feinberg’s legacy of advocacy and educational equity.
  2. Teaching Artifact
    Example: Lesson plan, instructional project, curriculum unit, or community initiative supporting multilingual students.
  3. Letter of Recommendation
    From a supervisor, administrator, or university faculty member.
  4. Resume/CV

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated on:

  • Commitment to multilingual learners
  • Evidence of effective instructional practice
  • Demonstrated advocacy for linguistic equity
  • Impact on students, families, or communities
  • Alignment with Dr. Castro Feinberg’s legacy of service

Scholarship for Bilingual Students

Purpose

To support bilingual or multilingual students who demonstrate academic promise, leadership, and commitment to serving linguistically diverse communities.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be a high school senior or undergraduate student.
  • Identify as bilingual or multilingual.
  • Plan to pursue studies in education, language studies, social sciences, public service, or related fields.
  • Demonstrate commitment to supporting multilingual or immigrant communities.

Application Materials

Applicants submit:

  1. Personal Essay (600–800 words)
    Describe how your bilingual or multilingual identity has shaped your educational journey and your goals for supporting and advocating for others.
  2. Academic Transcript
  3. Letter of Recommendation
    From a teacher, counselor, or community leader.
  4. Record of Service or Leadership Activities

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated on:

  • Academic achievement
  • Commitment to multilingual communities
  • Leadership and service
  • Personal narrative and future goals
  • Alignment with the values of educational access and justice
