ASPIRA of the Mid-Atlantic Services | Fall 2024

Family Engagement with School and Community

The following services align with our Mission and Vision and are delivered remotely until further notice. These services reflect our Guiding Principles, which are the key characteristics of ASPIRA of the Mid-Atlantic.

For All School Community Members

Family Engagement with School and Community

  • Launching Fall 2024 in Piedmont Triad region (urban high school, suburban middle school)
  • Focus: Navigating school, health, and economic systems to support student success.
  • Meetings: Bi-monthly with on-demand responses available year-round.
  • Curriculum: Includes materials from ASPIRA Parents for Excellence (APEX) and ASPIRA Financial Education Institute, along with resources from the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.

For School Administrators (with 10%+ EL Enrollment)

Private or Peer Group Mentorship Sessions

  •  Continuation of mentorship programs initiated in 2023.

For Educators and Parents in Bilingual Programs

Co-sponsorship of the 2024 Carolina Association for Bilingual Education (CarABE) Education Summit.

For Postsecondary Faculty and Administration

Consultations (30 minutes)

  • Recruitment and retention of Hispanic students (first session held September 2024 for a college located in a suburban/rural area of Western NC).
  • Higher Education policy review.
  • Outreach and support for Hispanic students.

For Middle School to College Students

Student Advisory Committee

  • Task: Identify issues affecting Hispanic students and propose solutions to the ASPIRA Board.
  • Opportunity: A Student Representative (age 18-26) will hold a seat on the ASPIRA of the Mid-Atlantic Board.

For Parents and Community Members

Consultations (30 minutes)

  • Orientation for meetings with Exceptional Student Education staff.
  • Health issues and resources.

Parent and Community Advisory Committee

  • Family and community members are invited to provide advice and share concerns with the ASPIRA Mid-Atlantic Board.

For PreK-12 Faculty and Staff

Consultations (30 minutes)

  • Trauma-informed practices
  • Rural bilingual education
  • English for speakers of other languages (ESOL)
  • Dual Language (DLs)
  • Other Multilingual Learners (MLs) 

Two-Way Communication Hubs

  •   Upon request, access hubs for networking and sharing successful practices for:
    • Heritage language teachers
    • ESOL teachers
    • Content-area teachers of English Learners
    • Dual Language Program teachers
    • School administrators from schools with 10%+ EL enrollment

For Postsecondary Faculty and Staff

Two-Way Communication Hubs

  •   Upon request, access hubs for Hispanic faculty and staff to share best practices.

For Postsecondary Students Seeking Employment

Consultations (30 minutes)

  •  Tips on the interview process.

For Nonprofit and Professional Education Association Hiring

Consultations (30 minutes)

  •  Guidance on screening candidates for employment.
